Do you often wish you knew how to diagnose and fix a simple problem with your snow blower, chain saw or lawn mower? Four-stroke and two-stroke theory is the heart of what makes a small engine tick and will be discussed. You will learn the differences between “L-Head, OHV and OHC style engines as well as vertical and horizontal configurations. This course includes both classroom and shop instruction with a hands-on engine teardown and reassembly that integrates the how-it-works with the why-it-works. (Safety glasses required).
This series of classes is being taught by David Travers, Smith Vocational and Agricultural mechanics shop teacher for more than twenty-five years. Classes meet for two and a half hours once per week for six weeks.

e with the choke on another mower. It gives you a lot of confidence to start tinkering and trying to piece together how things work, or why they aren't working. Dave is great about teaching all levels some people had more experience and had already done some engine repair work but he includes the basics too.
This class also gave me a huge appreciation for the engineering and design of small engines and how they work. It is amazing to actually know what happens inside an engine when you turn the key to start it. It is also extremely rewarding to fix an issue and then hear the engine start after you have worked on it. I highly recommend this class! Read LessRead less about Prior to taking this class I could
the last day and walk you through the troubleshooting process. I actually found this to be the best part of the class, and wish we all could have brought in broken engines, and worked together to diagnose and repair them.
After taking this class, I had the skills (and courage) to tackle a broken generator (it was a dirty carburetor), a broken chipper/shredder (again, clogged carburetor from a disintegrating gas tank), a small outboard motor (cracked air/fuel valve in the carburetor), and then a 3-cylinder jetski (throttle position sensor problem).
