Want to explore the world of social dance? This Fall, we begin with a basic East Coast Swing class. In six weeks we will cover single and triple step footwork, and learn a basic pattern in this popular dance style, one of the most popular dances and a favorite for all ages. This is a fun and upbeat dance played at weddings and social functions. No partner or experience needed. East Coast is a fun and versatile dance which can be done to music from 1930s up to today's pop tunes. We'll work on turns and partnering technique. By the end you will really be able to get out on the dance floor and "cut a rug!"
The second session will be the Cha Cha, a fun and up-tempo Latin Dance with Cuban roots danced to a syncopated beat. Not only can you Cha Cha to traditional Latin music, you can also dance to contemporary tunes at clubs and social events. Cha Cha is a "spot" dance which doesn't travel around the floor, so it can easily be danced in a small space.
No previous experience is required and you don’t need to bring a partner (leaders and followers will switch partners during class). You will leave class with a list of local dance venues where you can practice your new skills and learn more moves.
These classes are being taught by Emily Fox who has taught social dance in the Pioneer Valley for over 15 years. She's worked with students of all ages at venues including Dance Northampton, the Hartsbrook School, Paradise Dance, and her studio in Florence, MA. She's known for teaching with humor and patience and specializes in working with beginning students.
